COMMENTS: Kalele Kai was built about the time of the Japanese buying boom. The intent was to create a prestigious, low-rise, leasehold condominum as a gated community with its own private marina. The boom ended just as they started selling and the original developer went under. Rumors circulated that for several years there was only one owner/occupied unit among the 60 units in the complex. Buildings and Fee were eventually purchased by a new developer from Bishop Estate and the property was re-marketed. Private marina has an empty look possibly because there is a high, extra charge for its usage.
